The first batch of exhibits from the 136th Canton Fair arrived in Guangdong

The first batch of products to be displayed at the 136th Canton Fair next month arrived in Guangzhou, south China’s Guangdong province, on Wednesday.
The products have cleared customs and are ready to be showcased to potential customers from China and around the world at a major trade show opening in Guangzhou on October 15th. The first batch of 43 different goods consisted mainly of household appliances from Egypt, including gas stoves, washing machines and ovens, weighing more than 3 tons. The exhibits will be sent to the Canton Exhibition Center on Pazhou Island in Guangzhou.
Customs, ports and related businesses in various locations are making every effort to streamline logistics processes and make the entire preparation process easier.
“We have established a special customs clearance window for Canton Fair exhibits to provide exhibitors with all-weather customs clearance services and give priority to customs declaration, inspection, sampling, testing and other procedures. In addition, we are also coordinating with Qin Yi, head of the Nansha Port Inspection Department of Guangzhou Customs, said that ports should arrange the berthing, lifting and moving of Canton Fair exhibits in advance, and closely monitor supervision operations such as ship inspections and container unloading inspections.

“This is the third year in a row that we have processed imported exhibits for the Canton Fair. In recent years, the exhibition industry has continued to flourish, and the number and variety of exhibits at the Canton Fair have increased significantly. Once the goods arrive at the customs port, the entire inspection process has become faster and more efficient,” Li Kong, assistant general manager of Exhibition Logistics Company, told Sinotrans Beijing.
Apart from the ports, Guangdong Customs is also making every effort to ensure that all preparations for the exhibition proceed smoothly.
“We have set up a dedicated customs clearance window for Canton Fair exhibits on site and developed the “Smart Expo” information system to provide exhibitors with all-weather online and offline customs clearance schedules. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Pazhou Terminal in Hong Kong and Macau have installed guest express lines to protect Canton Fair exhibitors. The customs clearance went smoothly,” said Guo Rong, a second-level customs officer at the first inspection hall of the Canton Fair complex, which is linked to Guangzhou Customs.
The Canton Fair, also known as the China Import and Export Fair, is the oldest, largest and most comprehensive international trade event in China with the largest number of participants.
This year, the Canton Fair has 55 exhibition areas and approximately 74,000 booths.
From October 15 to November 4, more than 29,000 domestic and foreign companies are expected to present a full range of products.
A Chinese scientific expedition team obtained a key ice core Thursday during an expedition to the Tibetan Plateau, known as the “water tower of Asia.”
The area includes “a glacier, two lakes and three rivers.” It is home to the Puruogangri Glacier, the largest mid- and low-latitude glacier in the world, as well as Lakes Serin and Namtso, the largest and second largest lakes in Tibet. It is also the birthplace of the Yangtze River, Niu River and Brahmaputra River.
The region has a complex and variable climate and a very fragile ecosystem. It is also the center of Tibet’s economic and social development.
During the expedition, the team spent Thursday night drilling ice cores at different depths, aiming to record climate records on different time scales.
Ice core drilling is usually done at night and early in the morning when the ice temperature is quite low.
Ice cores provide important data on global climate and environmental change. The deposits and bubbles inside these cores hold the key to unlocking Earth’s climate history. By studying the bubbles trapped in the ice cores, scientists can analyze the composition of the atmosphere, including carbon dioxide levels, over hundreds of thousands of years.
The leader of the scientific expedition, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Yao Tandong, and the famous American glacier expert and foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Lonnie Thompson conducted a scientific survey of the glacier on Thursday morning. .
Using helicopter observations, thickness radar, satellite image comparisons and other methods, the scientific expedition team found that the surface area of the Proggangli Glacier has shrunk by 10% over the past 50 years.
The average height of the Purogangri glacier is 5748 meters and the highest point reaches 6370 meters. Glaciers are melting rapidly due to global warming.
“The same applies to melting on the surface of glaciers. The higher the altitude, the less melting. At lower altitudes, dendritic rivers accumulate on the ice surface. Currently, these branches extend to an altitude of more than 6,000 meters above sea level.” This was reported by Xu Boqing, a researcher at the Institute of the Tibetan Plateau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Research shows that the accelerated retreat of glaciers on the Tibetan Plateau over the past 40 years reflects a broader trend, while the rate of melting of the Puruogangri glacier is relatively slow compared to the overall situation on the plateau.
Temperature changes inside the glacier are also part of the reason why drilling is difficult, Xu said.
”The temperature inside the glacier has increased due to climate warming, suggesting that ablation may undergo sudden changes and accelerate growth under the same background of temperature change,” Xu said.
